It’s been a busy last couple months with plenty of return guests and lots of diving around the Bay Islands of Honduras. We have made several trip to Cayos Cochinos, Pigeon Caye, Dolphin’s Den, and Mary’s Place. As things slow down a bit for this week, a quick blog entry is in order. Diving with DAN is a resource for recreational scuba divers who want a better understanding of the many topics which encompass safely exploring the underwater world.
There is plenty of excellent information put out by the Divers Alert Network and here you can access original PDF files.
One quick point on DAN. In recent history there was a group of dive professionals who chose to find the cheapest way to go on a dive adventure. That entailed hiring a water taxi to take them to an open ocean dive spot at the Sea Mounts located between Cayos Cochinos and Roatan. During the dive, for whatever reason the water taxi/boat captain decided to head back to Roatan as he was running low on fuel. After re-fueling and going back out to the dive site, in open ocean on a very calm day he realized he not only didn’t know how to use the GPS device, but he had indeed lost the divers. Eventually the Roatan Marine Park was notified and several dive shops set out on the search for the missing divers. Among those divers was one with DAN insurance. The long story short is the fact that DAN financially compensated the shops who went out on the search for their fuel. Quality Time Dives spent about 25 gallons of fuel and we were paid in cash with no questions asked. How about that for going above and beyond by DAN?
They are the real deal and in the unfortunate event which a dive emergency occurs, diving with DAN is a smart choice.
